A cant miss KY hunt.

With average temps 85-90. Tomorrow and Monday are looking like must hunt days. Fortunately for me I'm off work and the wife will be off too. So I'm headed north to see if I can fill my KY tag with a velvet buck.

Good luck. Went home this weekend but didn't get to hunt because of rain. Did check cams and all but just a few were still in velvet but probably won't be by mid week. Hope you get one.

evening hunt was lackluster.....seen one doe at 7 pm....did catch a good buck trying to cross the road at 830 while i was driving out....going to be trying to move in on it tomorrow evening or tuesday evening. even though the temps were nearly 20* cooler, cloud cover 100%, with a good 9-11 mph north wind, the deer still didnt move until very late in the evening or dark. I plan on doing a scout hunt in the morning with no real expectation to kill a good buck. Then Im going to hunt tomorrow evening where I seen that good buck trying to cross the road at 830 pm. He was going west to east when my lights hit his eyes. Once he saw me coming from ways back. he turned the way he came back west, so that tells me hes bedding somewhere west of where I saw him. Fortunately for me there is only 30 acres of possible ground he could have came from.

Unfortunately I couldn't hunt this weekend. I've shot bucks during the first two weeks of the the season for the past 4 years, but that streak ended this year. One of my hunting partners made it up to the farm Sunday night and had one of our mature bucks close but couldn't close the deal. Ideal conditions for sure.

well as an update: i hunted hard for 3 days straight, doing scout hunts in the morning and setting evening sets. I saw three does on stand in three days. Hunting is very frustrating. anyone got any tips on how to hunt early season because after this past three days i feel like im headed back into another slump like the 1070 day drought I had just come out of last year with my first doe in about three years. I really dont have a early season strategy and I dont run trail cams

I have had the best luck in the early season hunting either on Agriculture field edges, or about 25 yards in the woodline from a field edge. When I setup in the woodline usually I setup in one of the back corners where the field forms an L shape. That Is just my strategy that has worked in the past, if you don't have any AG fields then you could always try to setup on a good water source if you can find where they are crossing/drinking from. Towards November I usually start setting up on the acorns.

During the early season, I always hunt fields in the evenings and woods in the mornings. I've had good luck hunting over turnips, radishes, and soybeans.

Put out some dang cameras. They're pretty much sticking to a routine this time of year. An extra few sets of eyes will help you figure out what those patterns are.
