This is not my rifle, this information was sent to me by a friend.

Apparently, the owner of this new rifle drove out to the range to sight it in. One small problem.....................he forgot to remove the laser bore sight from the end of the barrel before touching off the first round.

He lived but suffered major shrapnel to the face and upper body.

I have seen a shotgun barrel with a bulge in the middle from being fired with frozen snow and ice in the barrel.

This is a very good reminder to alway make sure there is nothing in the barrel. Leaving oil in a barrel rifling is very dangerous as well.

Be careful out there people.

And I thought I was the only one to do this. Man that barrel is gona need replaced. I did the same the other day out of my 300 win mag. I just have to have about 3 inches cut off my barrel to get her fixed. Good to hear the shooter is ok.

I thought that was a custom shoot around the hill and a tree up and down at the same time deer mowing tool.
All kidding aside , had a friend that shot a reload in a shotgun once that was never determined what was it the shell. When he pulled the trigger it came apart, he had the stock and back of the receiver in his hand the top of the barrel busted and was in different pieces. About 12 inches of the thing was not found.
They were standing in a dirt road shooting over a valley at the time , most of the pieces didn't go far . Some of the young mans friends were taking shotgun shells apart and upping the powder charge , using powder from 2 different shells . This was a long time ago but I don't shoot just anyones reloads to this day.

Had a friend that called in to get a powder charge from a company and didn't write it down , I thought the 6.5 sweed had fired it's last round that time. Have never since relied on his info or shot any reloads unless he has shot some first.
 
worst I ever did was load some 7RUM with what I thought was 90 grs RL22 wound up being 90 grs IMR4064,,,,,ouchy momma,,good thing for gas ports and strong actions,,had to beat the case out with a hammer.
 
I've been reloading for 30 years and made a mistake a couple of weeks ago. It turned out okay, though. I loaded 50 rounds of .308 for my Encore. Two of the rounds failed to get any powder. Dropped the hammer on one and nothing happened, or so I thought. It drove the bullet a couple of inches down the barrel. I put in another round and touched the trigger. Nothing again. It didn't have any powder either. I had to drive both bullets out of the bore from the muzzle. I got lucky that these two duds were together. If I had followed with a fully-charged load after the fitst dud, no telling what would have happened. I have renewed my safety procedures after this wake-up call.

Why in the world would you even attempt to shoot a rifle you KNOW for a FACT has a BARREL OBSTRUCTION. Not trying to be a smart A$$ or insulting but that is the most bone headed thing I think I've ever read. Do you remember what you were thinking as you loaded another bullet into the obstructed barrel? You are lucky to things went the way they did or else you could be seriously injured or dead.

If you know for a fact you have a barrel obstruction, shooting is over.
 
I didn't know it had a barrel obstruction. The gun had a supressor screwed on at the time, so there wasn't any noise but the hammer falling. I was cleaning up by firing some mixed loaded rounds (different bullets, different powder weights, some cases that needed to be fireformed for that particular chamber, etc., and some cases that were primed only). I was loading and firing into a dirt bank and I thought I must have chambered one of the cases that were primed only. You are missing my point, Model70Man, which is: Pay attention all the time, even if you have been shooting/reloading for a long time.
 
I happened to catch an episode of MYTH BUSTERS last night, had this same exact scenerio send it by a viewer, same pics I posted.

They didn't get the barrel to banana peel, but did get one to split @ 3" back from the muzzle.
