I would check to see if they make a cantlievered scope mount barrel for the 870. I know they have them for the 11/87. You are much better off to have the scope mounted to the barrel than to the reciever on a shot gun because the barrels can tend to have some play when mounting to the receiver. That way you can easily change barrels having a tru shotgun and slug gun without having to zero the scope when changing.
Yes they do make 870 barrels with a cantilever scope mount. I have one on another 870 of mine...It is an after market made by the
Hastings company...It is a real shooter too, fully rifled and very well balanced...The one I have is a sabot barrel only tho..Shooting remingtons copper solids in it could cause it to rupter according to the mfg...They are really the best way to go but that wasn't an option with my first 870...
