My nephew is 8 years old. He is going to take the hunters safety course this summer. My question is. Is there a way for him to legally hunt this weekend? Going to thin out a few does for a farmer and he would love to participate.

He is not required to have the hunter safety certification until age 10. There is a requirement that he be accompanied by an adult at least 21 years of age who meets the hunter safety requirements. That adult must remain in position to take immediate control of the hunting weapon.

In addition, to participate in the Special Season Antlerless hunts this weekend, he IS required to have the type 94 permit. It is required for ALL ages.

The following weekend for the Young Sportsman hunt he does not need the type 94 to take antlerless deer up to the Unit bag limit.
