So I am having my 7mm08 rebarreled with a brux 9twist in a 3 contour finished at 22 inches. It is a model 7 and will be trued, bedded and threaded. I'm not building it for long range but want it as an option and as of late have fallen in love with the heavy for caliber bullets. The only eld x available right now is a 162 grain but a 150 is coming out soon. I have read that some people are getting 2700fps and good accuracy with the eld x and rl19. I don't know how realistic this figure really is but would like some opinions. Is the higher bc of the 162 worth the lower velocity and will it pay off for shots out to 500yards or do I need to drop bullet weight to a 140-150 and shoot for higher velocity? I have a good idea of what I need to do and that is play with loads over a chrony but if I can truly get 2700fps with the 162 I think it may be a ticket winner. Fire away!

i get 3029 with 140 berger vld 24" bbl seated .010 off lands good dose of h414

the bc of the heaver bullet really pay off 500 plus

with my 300 rum

150 accubond 3675 fps
vs 200 accu bond 3213 fps the 150 had the advantage up to like 550 then the 200 ate it alive

especially the 208 amax 3313 fps

i have no experience with eldx

That's what I'm thinking da. I'm not saying that I won't shoot the gun farther than 500 because I likely will but am just a bit unsure if the bullet will eat up to much case capacity to realistically reach 2700fps in a 7mm08. I'm a huge nosler fan but have heard mixed reviews of the accubond lr.

accubond lr ... what i have heard have exaggerated bc

IMO the regular accubonds do well to 500

i like the berger vld

i dont let any bullet eat case capacity i seat to lands

my bolt actions are 2 shot rifles

i am no expert by any means unless you want to take about what bullets perform on deer as i have killed with several

2 of the smartest guys I know on here timintn mr big

I have known tim for 12 years he has forgot more than i will ever know him and eric are 2 of the best shots i have ever seen in my life

I don't know either of them but I do read and follow a lot of what Mr big has to say. I was hoping he may chime in. I am really just wondering if the 7mm08 is capable of effectively pushing the 162 eld x to distance at a velocity reasonable enough for longer range hunting. Btw da, I live in rhea county if you need to mark that and or Hamilton counties off let me know.
