New to the site and was wondering if anyone has any loading data for the 7mm rem ultra mag.I have tried and cant seem to put a load together that will beat off the shelf ammo. I like to load Nosler 140 gr. but if I have to go to a 160gr bullet or heavier to get better stabilzation i am willing.
Thanks

I shoot a Rem. 700 AWR in 7RUM. I tried the Rem. 150 gr.Sciroccos and felt like surely this gun will shoot better than this.I don't load so I ended up getting my ammo from Conley Precision Cartridge. To date they have loaded 139 hornady interbonds and 160 barnes tsx. Both of these loads shoot extremely well from my rifle.

I shoot the 300RUM and I tried multiple bullets in 165's and 150's and they would not shoot that good, the 180's were tack drivers. Each gun has it's own personality and you have to find it. The factory Remington ammo shot poorly in my gun.

The gun I own is a rem sendero with a 26.5 inch fluted barrel.I have gotten better groups out of the hevier bullets but would love to be able to load my own.I have taken many deer with it over 500yds and one out ove 1000.But I am always looking to improve.I just believe It could be better with reloads.Any input as to the powder I should use would be appreciated.i was told IMR7831 would be good.does anyone agree?

If you're already killing a pile of deer from 500 to 1000 yards with factory fodder with no problems, why do you want to change anything? To shoot deer at 1500 yards? If you're shooting that much at long range, you know that it's all about BC and retained KE, which often go hand-in-hand. Stick with the heavy-for-caliber bullets and slow burning powders.

unless you get 30 inch bbls the STW wil smoke it

Why would the STW smoke an ultramag? The STW is a much more efficient case than the ultramag with 26" barrels, but the ultramag IS faster (although it does take quite a bit more powder than the STW to get it there).

I'd take the STW over the ultramag in standard barrel lenghts and normal bullet weights, realizing I was giving up a little velocity for improved barrel life and powder consumption.

I just alwys will want to kill further but I can't justify spending thousands of dollars on a custom built rifle. And yes I would love to say I have killed a deer or coyote aat 1500 but if I did that I am the type that would want 2000yds.Every one is different.thats just me.You are right about bc and ke but you got to be able to connect before that does any good. The gun shoots good i just want it better and I think reloading will help.I just have to find the sweet spot.Just looking for a good starting spot.I may try the re 25 with a 160gr. or hevier bullet. Thanks for the input.Just looking for something differnt that what I been doing.

I loaded for 2 diferent rifles,,the best compromise I could come up with was the 162 Hornady BTSP and a BUNCH of RL25,,the load little brother liked best was the 154 and RL22.

we begged for data from sierra and all the powder manufactors, and hornady was the only people that would talk to us,this was when the big 7 first came out and we was buying factory ammo for 45$ a box and pulling bullets and dumping powder just to get the brass.

Hey Mr.Big Thanks for the input.maybey it will give me a better place to start that what i had.Yea that Ammo will break you up if you have to buy it off the shelf. Did you neck resize or full length?

how many did you lose before you had a clean kill at 1000. unless you can hit a pie plate 19 out of 20 times at 1000 or more that is ridiculous
