Does anyone know of a 7mm-08 rifle that has a 24" barrel? I've only found a couple so far. (Montana Rifle Company Extreme X2 is one).

I haven't decided between wood or synthetic, so I'm open to anything.

What is your budget for this rifle? I know of several more, but they are custom quality for $1800+.

You could also do a semi custom build from ER Shaw for $900-$1100

Go to Sportsmans Warehouse and buy a Tikka Superlite in 7/08 and be done with it. Save the money and time you would have spent on anything else and put it towards glass and bullets. It has a barrel length of 22.4 inches which is enough for a 7/08.

Good suggestion. You aren't going to gain but 10-20 fps (yes, only 10-20) with the extra 1.5" anyway. Powders slow enough to make use of the extra length aren't likely good choices for the cartridge anyway. Common powders for the 7mm-08 will give a complete burn in a 22" tube. Once the burn is complete, it's time for the bullet to be out of the barrel. The only thing you can gain is possibly added stability in a bean field or other varminting scenario. And the 7mm wouldn't be the best choice for that anyway.

OP: Why are you looking for 24" ??

I prefer the longer barrels because I usually shoot them better. They often feel better balanced. I'm not worried about the ballistics from a shorter barrel. I've been considering the Tikka though...

Somewhere between 500 and 1500. :)

1500 would be my absolute max and it'd have to be the absolute perfect rifle. $1200 is a more comfortable range, but it's probably have to be a wood stock. I can live without the 24" barrel if I have to. Im just trying to explore my options.

I'm torn between wood or synthetic. I think I may buy a more affordable synthetic like a Tikka and save a little more for a nicer wood rifle. I have a hard time dropping $1000+ on a synthetic rifle. Regardless of how well they're made, I can't convince myself they're worth that much.

Tikka offers a "T3 Hunter" that is a wood stocked rifle. My son has one and while the wood isn't the best I've ever seen, it's not a slab of plywood either.

Check out the Tikka prices at www.grabagun.com and I think you'll have a hard time beating them. We have bought several firearms from them. Search their site for Beretta rifles to find all of the Tikkas that they have in stock.

A 24" barrel on a 7.08 is like screwing around with a fat girl. Sure, you'll try it- but in public, she won't fit thru the turnstile...

22" Lilja #3 9 twist and thank me later.

You can borrow mine if you'd like and if it don't shoot groups smaller than your eyeball, UPSman will kiss your butt.

Unless you have big ol'whale eyes...

Tikka's are great rifles. I own one in 260 and it is a tack driver right out of the box. Keep an eye on the bigger dealers because some are starting to reduce the prices because a newer model is coming out soon.
