Hunted Saturday with Daddy whose hunted a lot this year but hasn't shot anything
When I got back to the cabin/shop at 10:30 he has there, after we talked for a while I asked
was he hunting that afternoon? He said he had hunted 4 days already that week and he was headed to the house,
as I stepped outside I looked in the foodplot that's there a saw a deer feeding. I picked up bios from truck a could tell it was a least a 2.5 yr buck, I had him set down at our picnic table which also serves as a shooting bench, got my pack
and gun from the truck and laid it in front of him. Ranged the buck at 213 yards, he got on the deer and I told him to use the bottom mil dot, (I have several Leupolds with the LR Duplex which lets me setup dead on 100, 150' 200 yards)
Right before shooting he loudly asks " how many points does he have" I replied what does it matter? Shoot!!!
The buck Mule kicked and run off, and of course all the way into a steep, cut over timber bottom, but the tractor
finally got in there. In all these years I've never seen him shoot one, he refuses to use my extra encore and carries his
TC Hawkin 50 cal shooting ball and patch. After the shot I looked at him at told him That's why you should shoot my guns!
I always try to have a Great place for him, he only hunts out of blinds or shooting houses with walk up steps as mine have,
I still remember over 40 yrs ago hunting at FT C him putting me, my brother and/or cousin in the best spots while he just stand up somewhere. I've been blessed to own the properties I have had and still own, I hate to think of the day when he's not here to be with me.
Today I had a client tell me over the phone I'm working with say he made up his mind that I was going to be his guy when 2 weeks ago I told him I couldn't meet with him after he showed up unexpectly after a 8 hour drive cause I was hunting with my father the next day.
Anyway heres the pic of the buck, no monster, but it's a Giant in my memory
