How many times can you say the F word on the very long, empty handed, walk back to the truck?

Second set of the afternoon. 24 degrees, blowing snow.
Perfect spot to get them off the hills where they were warming in the sun. This one came in to a Pup Distress call and stopped at 78 yards broadside, just 15yds from the FoxPro in the tree. I really wanted to crack the scope up from 3x, but that should have been plenty at that distance.
Total miss. I was dumbfounded. He loped off, not hauling butt, probably due to the silencer fooling him about what happened. Kept a cedar tree between me and him, so no follow up shot.

How long is this position/call burned? It is a such a great spot for cold weather. I have to redeem myself.

Hate to hear that. The way i look at it there are plenty of dogs out there. Im a novice but i have been hitting my spots pretty hard and i called another one in yesterday, so who knows.

I will not call set more than 2 times in a season. do want to educate them and have a surplus of sets.

Lol-I can say it many many times and have-i can feel your pain. Now I have missed some marginal/difficult shots at coyotes and can understand that; but I have missed some real gimmes and that is hard to take. It is enough to make a preacher cuss a blue streak. I don't have many calling areas and probably over hunt them but I try to change sounds, set up, and techniques. I haven't been out in a while; need to get out.

I'm going to attribute my miss to a new rifle and scope combo. First time out with it and maybe I'm still getting used to the round reticle on the Nikon Coyote. At least that's my excuse.
My wife informed me that I am a grumpy person to be around after a miss. I had one earlier in the year with my bow, but at least I shaved some hair off that coyote's back!

Don't feel bad man.
I called in one last year with my brand new rifle, scope and bipod set up.
Right at the last second my son whispered and said he wanted to shoot hit.
I said ok.

I barked to stop him at 25 yards broadside.
Smooth miss. LOL

He felt bad, but I thought it was funny.
I got off two shots as he was running full bore but missed both times. :(
