Seven years ago I got my first deer ever. I was 50 years old. A friend of mine had a deer problem and got a depredation permit for her property. I'd never hunted deer before. I didn't own any rifles at all; not even a .22 LR.

At first I tried with a bow. I practiced a lot and could shoot fairly well, but the property has too much brush and trees. That led me to buying a muzzleloader, where that big bullet could go through some of that brush. The area I hunt I call "The Subdivision" because I'm hunting in the back of one. :) Safety is paramount there, so I only shoot when I can shoot down into the steep draw behind her house.

Well that first year, I got four deer after never hunting them before. Three of them on that property. I had a minister come and show me how to field dress them and I donated all the meat to help some families in need.

Anyway, I went yesterday at the last minute. I had some time before work. At first I sat up in the yard where I've been seeing deer on my camera. They are mostly nocturnal still, including one decent buck (for East Tennessee). With only a hour left to stay, I went to the draw to try it. All the folks in that area throw their brush down there. I made a nice little hide out of all the tree limbs and debris. I saw movement up on the hill and was re-positioning my camera. Then I looked over and saw Mr. Spikey Spike and decided to shoot him. Seven years to the day I shot my first deer ever, I shot another one about 40 feet from where I got my first one. :) Hope you enjoy the video.
