60gr SP Muzzle energy?

I don't have any ballistic calculators so could someone give me an idea of what kinda muzzle energy and 100yd energy I'm lookin at gettin with a 60gr bullet traveling 2875-2950fps?

I'm trying to get somethin rolled up for deer/hog and I'm not used to loading such a small round like the .223 for deer/hog.

2900 FPS gets you 1120 at the muzzle and 876 at 100 yds. I used this... http://www.handloads.com/calc/

I rolled up 25rnd last night.

.223 rem
60gr hornady SP over 22.5gr Benchmark
Book speed is about 3,048fps but that's with a 24" barrel and mine is 22" so right at 3,000 give or take a few. This is a medium load at %88 case cap and max is 24 or 25gr I think, book speed on that is around 3150 if I'm not mistaken in the nosler #6 manual.

Any particular reason you are going for a light round in the .223 ?

you are WAY under gunned and under grained for hogs unless you are going for ear hole shots. Even if you do get one of those itty bitty bullets through a hogs shoulder shield, you are looking at zero blood trail when it runs off.

Neck and ear shots. But the .223 is mostly for deer, if a hog shows up, I'm more than confident with my shooting skills.

A certain 32" barrled big bore rifle in my safe provides more than enough confidence...slow, but packs one heck of a punch...on both ends.
