6.5 verse 308

OK guys your opinion. Was watching this show called trigger time tv. And of course their spill and this guy proceeds to say he was shooting 6.5cm in Alfganistan and talking about the 308 not holding up and making kill shots out to 800 and the cm was doing this 10 mils less than the 308. My wheels go spinning as I have shot some pretty insane ranges killed some big game animals stretching limits, but how can one compare the 6.5 to 308 when 30 Cal has some pretty heavy bullets, and I have the ruger precision in 6.5 but I don't recall seeing or shooting 168 plus in a 6.5. So some you guys that shoot this a lot any info appreciated. . Thanks

Those values are no where near correct; however, the main purpose for the switch is to increase their hit percentage at long range. Monte Carlo simulation backs up real world test results.

I've killed several deer with a 260 REM and a 6.5 CM; my son has killed several with his 308.

They have a lot of overlap in applicability, but for me, the point is the 6.5 bullets can get the job done with lighter bullets, and the accompanying milder recoil. For deer, I see no reason to go above 140 gr. I've killed about as many with 120 gr bullets as 140. (My son uses 150 gr in his 308.) For me, i look at the 168 gr 308 as a disadvantage, but maybe that's just me. I'm sure you do just fine with the 308 and the larger bullets.

I have shot enough 308 that I know I would rather have my 6.5x47 ,,a 140 6.5mm bullet with a BC over .600 will shoot with 30 cal bullets up to the 200.20X Berger and 195 SMKs,,

only thing you gain is a little energy that is wasted on steel and paper...out to sane ranges the energy on game animals is a wash,,

The 6.5 is far ballistically superior to the .308. It's as simple as that.
