I’m seeing MVs of 2700fps for 140s, 2820 for 129s, and 2920 for 120s on the Hornady website. My 30-06 shoots 165s at 2950fps with RL17, and 180s at 2875fps with RL26. 270 shoots 130s at 3100, 140s at 3000, and 150s at 2900fps... and 100+ fps faster with modern powders if you handload. Those all have varying BCs, but believe it or not, the heavier 270s and 30-06s are really close to a lot of the 6.5s, and better than the light 6.5s. As has been mentioned, I picked random popular cartridges to make my point, but even a 25-06 or 7mag don’t shoot substantially flatter than 308 or 30-06 at reasonable hunting distances. The 800 yard comment was hyperbole, but really not much. And if you look at most ballistics tables it will be closer to 400+ yards before just about any cartridge will show a difference, and most people should not be shooting animals at that distance; if they do they will have to know their dope, regardless, and flat shooting then becomes somewhat irrelevant. I wasn’t hating on the cartridge, nor was I calling anything flatter, but many will claim that the 6.5x47 is a better cartridge without the media machine. The 6.5-284 even flatter, as has been mentioned. Once again, I think that the Creedmoor is a neat cartridge, just not superior as it has been marketed.
