You definitely don't want FMJ bullets for hunting. And I'd not recommend FMJ for self defense either. Remember that you are responsible for the bullet after it leaves the barrel. FMJ has a bad habit of continuing to go places after it passes through the intended target. I'd recommend Black Hills, and the 60 grain VMax is a fantastic all-around bullet for your uses. If you go with more than one brand / load / bullet keep in mind that your POI may move from one to the other. If you want consistency, stay away from "bulk" ammunition. Of course, for just burning powder and not caring where the bullet goes it is fine.
