Got a good deal on shield 45. After checking prices I've realized if I wanna shoot much I need to reload. Where's the best place to find brass and bullets. Plated bullets are fine. Mostly looking for plinking. Also, in regards to powder, which is the best, or cleanest? Is there any benefit of small primers vs large. I've dealt with rifle calibers and 9mm but 45 is new to me. Thanks in advance

Lots of places have 45 acp once fired brass. I have done lots of business with Brassman Brass bu there are plenty of others

That's all I know about loading pistol. I have an older Dillon I bought because I want to get a 40/41/45 something.

Other thing I know about pistol loading is be careful. A little powder goes a very long way.

I've noticed depending on the powder used there's maybe .5 grain difference between max and min. I haven't dealt with brassman but I've heard positive things. I've looked at tons of places that sell once fired but haven't found any deals. Except one place that had I believe $20/1000. Sold out tho

Yes, the pistol powders I guess are very fast (makes sense) and pushing them through the autoloaders makes double drops and other errors more significant.


Routine care in loading and maybe an extra step along the way to make sure you haven't double charged a case is probably a good idea.

unique,tite group, universal clays, all good ,trailboss shows promise , only difference in primers is one more variable to separate brass by. :bash: :tu:

X2 For brassman, bought brass and bullets from there. Also reloading for semi-autos I recommend you load up 10-20 rds and shoot them see if the "recipe" loads/fires/cycles good in your gun before just running and reloading a few hundred rounds. I do that for all my calibers pistol or rifle, bolt or semi-auto. I don't reload shotgun, but would probably do the same if I did.

When I loaded for my 9mm I think that's what I done. I wasn't exactly after accuracy. Just wanted it to cycle

I have bought X1 fired from Leo Brass and had good luck. I shoot HP38, win 231, titegroup, unique etc. my 1911s shoot HP38 with 230rn the best. My xd and glock shoot 200RN with unique good.

Only recently have there been manufacturers making 45acp with small primer pockets.

I'd stay away from that brass. It's the minority by far. You don't want both kinds of brass in your supply. You only want one size of pockets for safety and uniformity reasons. Keep it simple. If somebody offers you a bunch for free, then trade them for something else you need. Mixed headstamps with pistol brass is fine, but different primer pockets? No way.
