Anyone hunt with the 45/70? I ordered a CVA Scout break action single shot and plan on using it as my tree stand/woods rifle.

I do during MZer season. Very compact, handles great, shoots awesome.UTGrad":2isg8ia3 said:Anyone hunt with the 45/70?
Exactly what I did to convert mine to a smokeless MZer.Jcalder":2isg8ia3 said:Put a breech plug in it

The rifle will be a 25" barrel CVA Scout with a radial muzzle brake and a weight of 8 lbs. Chuck Hawks has 37 lbs of recoil for a 350 grain magnum load which is equal to a 375 H&H.
I dont want to get kicked out of the tree stand so I'll "test" the Buffalo Bore magnum load but might settle on the Hornady.

I've been experimenting with it some lately using a 395 grain cast bullet (NOE mold) in the 460 Weatherby to come up with a manageable cast bullet deer load.
There is a link to the pdf file here but for some reason it's not working at the moment.

Here it is coming through from the IMR powder site:
