Smokeless
I would buy 1 and have it converted. I will have a 4570 turned smokeless at some point but I want 1 a little lighter than the cva if its as heavy as my optima. Im not wanting to shoot the top end fps so a very heavy barreled conversion isn't for me. 200y is about all I need.

The Stalker is basically a slightly altered CVA Optima Elite. The main difference is you can not swap barrels. Unlike the other Optimas, the older Optima Elite had a steel receiver. So it is likely heavier than a regular Optima ML.

I had a SS stalker. It had a loose bore but a quick knurl fixed this. It was definately a shooter with 195's knurled with 58gns on N120. Awesome first 45-70 conversion for me.

Sounds familiar :D

CVA says they are in production now and should be available in May.

I just want to shoot a sabot and don't want to get too complicated or shoot long range....I just dont want to clean my muzzle-loader frequently.

Will these shoot a sabot well?

I used the barnes 195 with harvester light blue sabot. It depends on wether your bore is loose or not as to wether you will have to knurl which is very easy to do. The barnes is a deer killin machine. The gun grouped really well with the right load. I would have felt confident out to 300 all day long. It's got a 24" barrel and a solid stock. It was an awesome tree stand gun. A lil on the heavy side but that helped with recoil a lot. I can't say enough about it as a starter 45-70. Any questions pm me.
Steve
