Just wondering why some bullets (like the .40) are squared off instead of rounded like the .45acp and 9mm. Is it a feed issue, or a ballistics issue?? Just curious.
 
You can get most pistol bullets in either round nose or flat nose, just like hollow points or wadcutters etc.
 
Used to call those "Air Force bullets" back in the 70's. Near as I can recall, the USAF wanted a bullet that was more effective than standard military ball ammo, but they couldn't use hollow points. They came up with the truncated cone flat point design with Hornady, but I don't think it was ever shown to be any more effective than the round nose bullets.
