Just wondering why some bullets (like the .40) are squared off instead of rounded like the .45acp and 9mm. Is it a feed issue, or a ballistics issue?? Just curious.

only bullets ive shot out of my 40 are remington and blazer and there rounded.

You can get most pistol bullets in either round nose or flat nose, just like hollow points or wadcutters etc.

Used to call those "Air Force bullets" back in the 70's. Near as I can recall, the USAF wanted a bullet that was more effective than standard military ball ammo, but they couldn't use hollow points. They came up with the truncated cone flat point design with Hornady, but I don't think it was ever shown to be any more effective than the round nose bullets.

i would think as hot a load as a 42 is that flat bullet would thump on the business end. i load flat noses in my 45 acp
