Not sure what type of scope you have. I would say you would be better off spending on better glass vs bigger. Maybe a different reticle.

30mm tube MAYBE.

Have a very good ophthalmologist give you a thorough eye evaluation.

I had cataract surgery done at age 68 & 69. Like getting new eyes. Very highly recommended. More than that.

Here's what you'll gain: weight and bulk
Some good advice below about going with better glass. Sucks that it is more expensive, but can be worth it.

Absolutely not. If the glass is good, the difference is negligible to old eyes like ours.

50 mm.......higher rings.....weird cheek weld to the stock.......been there and done it............no advantage other than spending more money IMO.

It all depends on the magnification. 50mm objective only makes a difference on the high end. The exit pupil needs to be about 7mm for young eyes. A larger objective keeps the exit pupil at or above 7mm at higher magnification levels. As we get older our pupils no longer dilate to 7mm, so a large objective loses it's value because we can't make use of the larger exit pupil anyway.

The biggest advantage I found with a larger objective scope was easier / faster target acquisition.
Especially for a deer that was walking at a steady pace through heavy timber.
Just made it easier for me to make the transition of watching with my naked eye to getting it in the crosshairs.

I much prefer the 50 mm to the smaller ones.

That's just me though.

As for lighter, they say it don't matter.
