What an unbelievable trip! I decided to stay an extra day because I was on this particular bird. Roosted him last night in a swamp but was unsure of his exact location. I eased in there this morning in the dark and just sat down. Right at first light, I could hear spitting and drumming but no gobbles. I knew I had to be close or was making up sounds in my head. I tree yelped real soft twice on a Halloran walnut/wenge slate and he hammered back once. That concerned me a bit because several hunters were in the area. But about 5 minutes later he flew down, landed 30 yards from me and it was over. Time to head home!
