This morning was nice and frosty. I have been hunting this 8 pointer since early Oct.. I was on the ground in early November with a 18 yard shot but a hedge prevented the shot and the buck would not come on out.
This morning he was trailing does and a little dumber. He came in with the wind blowing from me to him but came in anyway. I was in a thicket and he gave me a shot at what I thought was about 22 yards thru a small openning. I took it and saw my arrow hit him low in the front chest just behind his front leg. He went 10 yards and bedded down under a pine tree. After 5 minutes he staggered up and started to walk away. I took another shot outside of my range and hit him hard in the hip area. I saw him go down at about 50 yards.
The first shot was closer to 30 than 20 and nicked his heart and cut a main artery. The 2nd shot was not needed. The 8 pointer field dressed at 126. His antlers were wider than his ears.
The bow was a 70 pound black widow recurve.
