Maybe I missed it but what is the average # of 3rd bucks taken by hunters in TN over say the last 3 seasons? Certainly this number must have been presented to the commission/board members before their decision was rendered?

it is a low percentage. I know of only one person near me that tags out every year. By the outrage of the limit reduction, It must be quite a bit higher in east TN

I'd kinda like to know the number of hunters that were fortunate enough to take 2 bucks, then were able to continue hunting for a 3rd buck, even if they didn't kill that 3rd buck.

Count me as one of them for the last 2 seasons... And I have become far more selective voluntarily over the years. I have seen and passed on more bucks every year voluntarily without legislation.

For the last three seasons, 4% of hunters that killed at least one buck killed 3 or more bucks.

Now if we run the numbers killed with the estimated number of deer hunters in the state (around 217000) we see that....each year about 1% of deer hunters kill 3 or more bucks.

Now to answer MUP's question.

For the last three years, 22-23% of hunters that killed at least one buck killed two bucks total and could keep hunting.

Running those numbers against the estimated number of deer hunters in the state we see that....each year about 6-7% of deer hunters killed two bucks.

Each year only about 30% of deer hunters killed a buck.

For the last three years, the actual numbers of third buck taken were less than 3000 for each year (2900+, 2300+ and 2700+)

diehard , thanks for sharing. Now what do we do with that information and how do we apply it to the new 2 buck limit. If we use the first set of numbers " For the last three seasons, 4% of hunters that killed at least one buck killed 3 or more bucks." do we think now around the same percent will limit out with 2 bucks?

Yes, thanks Diehard! This is the first I've seen of those percentages.

I just did the math with the numbers listed in the hunters toolbox on the TWRA website!
