357 mag to max help

Anyone know of a trusted source, preferably local to have a 357 mag barrel reamed to max?

I had a good machine shop to do my first one. The throat needs to be right. That gun was a New England that is long gone but was a good one. I then had two made for a Encore rifle and a Pistol from Match Grade Machine, I believe they are top notch. What firearm are you wanting to ream? If it is a New England you may not have to have it reamed to shoot a 360DW witch the case is half way between the mag. and max.

I don't know of any sources to do the job but it is a conversion that myself and a friend have talked about doing to a NEF. Would be a great little "walking around" rifle in my opinion.

Doing it to a NEF is easy with the right tap. I saw a guy do it to one setting under a tree showing the rest of us how to do it. I would have no qualms doing it my self. The reason I had mine done at a machine shop was it was a good friend who did it. It is a good deer dropper.

I agree. Since you can easily take the barrel off a NEF single shot rifle, a hand reamer with pilot should make it a simple "no-lathe" job. I wish they hadn't stopped making the Handi-Rifle in 357. I sort of got side tracked from this plan when I got a 35 Remington lever action. That took care of my 35 caliber rifle urge for now.

I had originally planned on doing a Handi 357 mag, until I was notified the order wasnt able to be filled. I think that may be better anyway...gives me an excuse to have a barrel biult for the Encore.

I am on a Mike Bellm's waiting list which should begin next month. I had planned on having both, a Handi and Bellm. I read somewhere, that Remington shutting the H&R line down, is opening the door for a Remmy line of break actions.????
