.357 for deer

I have a Marlin lever 357mag. I have a few hunting spots that are real thick and thought about using this gun for them. I have never hunting with it or anything similar always used my .243 My question is what loads should I try for this gun? I am planning on using open sights but may go for a lower powered scope. Thanks in advance.

I've used 158gr. hydra shoks

leave it open sights too

Thanks for the quick reply shane. Who makes the hydra shoks? Do you have the marlin? If so what kind of accuracy are you getting. This gun shoulders so smooth and I love the feel of it. The open sights line up good also.

Federal makes the hydra shoks.

I don't have one anymore, but yes I had a .357 marlin.

It was an open sight gun too, 50yds I could get around a golf ball size group.

i have the same rifle and always shot the 125 gr. hollow points.

I would stick with a heavier bullet (158-180gr) just to be safe. The 125gr JHP made the 357 mag famous, but I'd want something a little heavier to shoot deer with.

the 125 does just fine limited to 75 yds. or so. and they are much more accurate out of my riflethan the heavier bullets.
