I'm fixing to start reloading the 350 legend, any experience or info anyone can share would be appreciated.

My main question is does this round need to be crimped. I'm leaning towards no from what I've read and seen.

I'm shooting a savage axis bolt action. I don't believe I'll ever get a shot hunting over 200yds with it, if I hunt a place I can shoot farther I bring my 270.
 
I've been shooting Winchester. I found some Winchester 180 gr pp and also been looking at Hornady 180 gr pp. What makes you settle on the hammer or makers over the Winchester or Hornady.

My biggest concern is keeping the heavier round with about 2050fps.

All my rifles I like the heavier rounds.

Also, what makes you go lighter on your rounds. I go heavier for more energy at impact.

I'm a pure copper bullet fan. I like pass throughs and that's how I started getting pass throughs reliably with good expansion, blood, etc . Not a huge issue with deer but I was shooting 100+ plus hogs a year at the time with 350. I just preferred the on game performance through lots of shooting pigs. I did get tired of paying the $ for copper to shoot high volumes at pigs and then started testing lead bullets and went with the 165 FTX as my budget bullet. The reality is just about anything will kill but that's what I was seeing the best performance out of personally. I've seen and killed many with the PowerPoint, interlock, sierra, etc etc as well, it works, just had a lot of no pass through.
 
I shoot the 170 Hornady SP and 165 FTX in my Axis II. My rounds aren't crimped and I'm using H110. Even though I'm not a fan of the rifle I use it quite a bit because it's short, light and shoots excellent.
