Tell me your recipe guys...

I am looking to work up a load for my 700 20" bull barreled SPS. I only want to use varget for now, I have hornady 168 match bullets, 168 MK's, and 168 grain Amax's.

46 gr is book max for 165 gr bullets. It shoots good in more than one 308, I have never tried to go past the book max.

I use 46 gr of varget in hornady match brass with 165 gr SST. Its a compressed load and shoots 1" groups at 200 yds. I get no pressure signs with this load.

I'm shooting the 700 SPS with 44.4gr of Varget under Speer 165gr PSPBT with CCI LR primers. I'm neck sizing only with .003 neck tension and no crimp with OAL at 2.800. At 200yds I get about 3/4" group. With suppressor the group size is same and 1" higher and no windage change. Very similar results with SMK 168 and 175. My rifle has a long throat and I'm certain I could tighten the groups by loading to or very near the lands but then she's a singleshot rifle.

The 3 rem 308s I've messed with had long throats so I loaded to Max mag length, have to look at notes but you can measure your mag length and make sure your throat allows this oal length or longer, 44.5 gr of varget has worked well with the aac-sd 1:10 twist and sps tac 1:12 twist.
I use a full length sizer die and just bump the shoulder back a couple to 3 thousandths; this helps lengthen brass life by not over working it. Then I anneal brass every 3 loadings.
Search TresMon here and on snipers hide for some good reloading pointers.

I use 45 grs RL15 in 20 inch Model 7,,45 grs Varget was just as accurate but not as fast in the 20 inch bbl.

but anything from 4064,4895,varget,Tac,2520 should all work plus some more,,308 and 168 bullets is a very easy load to get to shoot,,

the 165 Sierra Gamking BTHP will allow to reach the rifilings at mag length in most any rifle,,but the BC sux.

I have heard the following are the goto loads:

45gr Varget and 175 SMK
46gr Varget and 168 SMK
Winchester brass
CCI 200 or BR2

I have found that 44.5 grain of Varget with a 168 SMK has worked for me. However, it isn't overly fast.
