308 marlin express

Anybody have one? Pros cons? I'm a fan of lever guns, and I'm thinking about getting one, just wanted to get some opinions. I have a 336 in 35 rem. How will it compare?

i've got one that i put the wild west trigger on and worked on the hammer spring some
the trigger pull is now about 2 1/2 lbs
but the only things i've shot with it has been a crow and a couple of armadillos
the crow was about 200 yards away
i don't think they feel as good as the older marlins
i guess its the longer barrel but something about it is just different
other than that i really like it
hoping to get a chance to try it on a deer this fall
recoil is less than a 35 rem and i think less than a regular 308
i'm a afraid this is a gimmick round and ammo production will wind down soon

I've deer hunted with one for about 4 years now and absolutely love it. I grew up hunting with a lever-action 30-30, so I was glad to see a lever gun that is accurate over 200 yards. It's not real heavy and is very easy to carry around all day if you still hunt any at all. It's also just plain fun to shoot, and is deadly accurate out to 300 yards. My only regret is not getting a 3 x 9 scope mounted on it - mine is a 2 x 7. I keep thinking I will replace it but it shoots so good I don't want to mess with it. No gimmick IMO - not heard any news about halting ammo production.

My dad has one and likes it ok. No luck reloading to Leverevolution velocities or accuracy. I think that it is too long and unwieldy for a levergun in the XLR format, but the 22" version is basically a modern .307 Win.: a quick handling lever action .308
