What load do you shoot? About to branch off and start re-loading for 308. I only have an ar 10 at the moment but wouldn't mind getting a bolt action as well.

For what? My target load is 44.5g Varget behind 168 Sierra BTHP. Good luck finding Varget.
Almost identical, but my hunting load, 44 gr of Varget with a 165 gr Nosler BT, shoots 1/2 moa in my shorty barreled Savage.

I like RL-15 with a 165 gr Nosler Accubond or Ballistic Tip. My load is a little over max, so I wont post the #s. Varget is good stuff if you can find it.

44.6 varget with a 165 sgk in either hp or sp

I liked w748 till I ran out. I've used a bit of imr 4064 but went a different route. I'll probably try again since I like 4064 in my 243

Big or small, kill em all

You have a point!! I want a good hunting round for <200 yards for the AR. A buddy also wants me to make some hunting loads for his bolt action that will reach on out to as far as he and his gun are capable wich is yet to be determined.

Anyone shooting IMR4166 in a 308? What is your recipe?

IMR4166 is available and it seems as though Varget has dropped out of existence again.

Varget is not the end all,,,,lots of good powders to shoot in 308,,,,just about anything on the burn chart from 3031 to VVN150 will work good enough to shoot deer inside 200 with just about any bullet from 150-180 grs,,

for long range work I would pick one of the 155 Match bullets and work up as hot as I could get with IMR8208XBR

45 gr of Varget or 41 gr of AR Comp with a 165 gr speer bullet set at 2.810. Varget is hard to find but AR Comp is available. But if u buy the AR Comp at BPS you may have to finance it, they are prowd of their powder.

46 gr of Varget and a 165 gr Interbond for me. 1 hole at 200 yds.
×2

The upper node for varget and a 165gr projectile is at the top of the pressure range. Start around 44 at .020 off the lands and work up in .3 gr increments, looking for pressure signs.
My Savage/Criterion loves the 46 gr load too.
