308 ammo?

never owned a 308 fixing to grab a savage 110 what ammo you guys suggest for deer thumping out to about 300. figured I would go with the ole standby sst like I shoot out of the 270's thanks

A lot of the 150 gr. ammo will shoot flat enough to make good hits at 300 yards. I handload Hornady 150 gr. Spire Points. Some people shoot 165 gr. and do good. Mine is sighted dead on at 25 yards, and this comes out to about 3 1/2" high at 100 yards. Most of the deer I've killed with my .308 has been at 100 yards and closer but, I've killed 1 at 225 and another at 260. I don't think another 40 yards would've made a lot of difference. Good luck with your .308 and ammo choice.

One I don't recommend is the hornady superformance. I would opt for either the custom line or whitetail line. They all use the same bullet but don't get caught up on the velocity difference

Find a 150-165 gr load that shoots good out of your rifle and use it. No need for premiums at .308 velocities.

I have used the winchester and hornady whitetails out if mine with great results shot one over 250 year before with catman and took one last year a little farther i havent had a problem yet

My Savage .308 shoots about anything I run through it to meet your criteria, but absolutely loves anything in 165 grains. I could probably sent you several rounds in 3-5 of the more popular 150 grain rounds if you wish. I was shooting a couple boxes of shells a week last year to see which my gun likes best. Now I keep the ones that I don't hunt with around just to hear my gun go bang.
