I am new to the 308, so my question is, what grain bullet do i need to shoot? im gonna use it primarily for deer.
thanx in advance

try different grains. my tikka loves 150 WBT. they clover leaf all day at 100.
some other brands shot awful, 1 as bad as 3" at 100. it can be expensive but it's the only way to know what your rifle likes.

Ditto. Great advice.

My 308 loves the 165 grain Hornady Interbond.

If I rmember correctly, I started reloading the 308 with 150 round nose, as well as pointed, along with 43 grs of IMR 4064 powder.

That was some 39 years ago and I have shot alot a deer and hogs
with that load. Still use that load and gun to this date.

Hope you enjoy your 308.

thanks guys. i cant wait for it to get here. i had to order it from gander mountain, and it looks like it could be a week or two before i see it.
oh yeah its a encore prohunter, topped with a luepold.

Today I helped my son butcher a nice doe he shot this morning, using a .308 with a 150 gr Nosler BT. Totally blew up the deer's heart and left a 2 inch exit hole. He's been using that bullet for a few years and has had nothing but good results with it.

Personally I think its hard to make a bad bullet choice with a .308. Its velocity doesnt warrant the use of premium bullets, so stick with the cheaper cup-n-core bullets. Find a 150, 165, or 180 gr bullet that shoots well and go hunting.

I shoot 150gr. federal power shok out of my remington 700 308. Its like the cheapest line of hunting bullet that federal makes something like $14 a box. I've killed 2 deer with it this year and both have dropped right in their tracks. My gun loves these bullets, scary accurate.
