3006 or ????

Ok. So I have a rem 700 30-06 adl old style trigger. Should I rebarrel it in 3006 or or another cal and have action trued/blueprinted and bolt lapped? Caliber so own and reload for are

I have a big jump from 6mm to 30 cal. Not including the 270 for which I am not that fond of. Any suggestions? I was thinking may 260 or even 6.5-06......? What y'all think?

300 WSM will require you to open the bolt face up. It it were mine a 280 Rem or 280 Ackley tube would find its way onto the receiver...

I was just saying that I have and reload for a 300wsm. I don't want another on. I wanna keep the same bolt

I don't think you can do a 223 of your choices I would go with the 270 or back to a 30-06

Oh No, I would definitely go for 280.

Reload components are available, it is very accurate.

All your mid range cartridges are the same for all intents and purposes. I would recommend a thumper like the .35 Whelen or 9.3x62. I would build a 9.3x62 on this action.

I agree with PH on the .35 Whelen, I also like the .338-06. One day I'll get around to building a medium bore.

The 280 Ackley Improved would be my choice when starting with a 30-06 bolt and action length. The 280 Ackley gives you about 100fps over the standard 280, brass can easily be made by simply firing a 280 in the Ackley chamber and it is something that not everybody else has.

I know what you mean. I've had the same urge for a 416 Rigby for years now. However, if pressed to answer the "Why", I'll say that a 416 Rigby would be great for reduced loads and cast bullets in the thick deer woods. :)

I'm biased here...the 30-06 is awesome, always has been, always will be...but the 280 Ackley is hard to beat for a non-magnum round.
