Starting to work on a load for my 300 wm. Starting with 180 NBT over 79 grains of H1000. But maybe I should go to 200 gr pills?????? What u guys slinging from your win mags? For deer that is..... I shoot a 300wsm with 150gr NBT at about 3200ish fps. Looking to make the win mag a little different
 
I plan to start working up a load for my 300WinMag as well soon enough. In my 300WSM I shoot 150 gr NAB's over AA4350 right now and have achieved sub MOA at 100 yds, out to 400 yds. I'm just a tad over MOA at 600, but I have a good scope yet to mount on it that will I believe solve that little problem. On the 300WM, I plan to start with R22, using 180 gr NAB's.
 
I found 77 grains of IMR7828 to be the recipe for my A-Bolt 300 WinMag. I only shoot 180 grain Partitions in it although I have a stack of Accubonds to load up and shoot.

I know there are a lot of comments about IMR7828 not being weather tolerant.....that has not been my experience.
 
I would personally use bullets. My 5R loves a 220gr SMK over ~77gr of H1000 3.45-3.50 OAL. I'd start low and work up to that.

I use factory Barnes ammo for hunting.

I believe the same thing is said about R22 and being temp sensitive as well Dave. I guess I'll find out. ;)

I was wanting to try the new IMR 7977 which claims to do it all no matter the temp. The link says Zero to 125 degrees.....and from my perspective, that is not much of a spread. I have been in NW Colorado and East Utah with the temp so far below zero you couldn't take a leak.

I have killed California deer in the Coastal "A" zone in August and Mule deer in November at 8200 feet with the same load recipe and the bullet hit where I aimed. I really like IMR7828

R23 is supposed to be much improved over R22 from what I've read as well. I just haven't seen any to be able to buy yet. :)
 
I am starting with 180gt NBT over 79 gr of H1000, COAL of 3.330, which just barely fits in the mag box. We will see. I also have some 168 gr Bergers Classic hunters I may work up. New toy. Lots of loads. Always fun to tinker with
 
180 grain Noz Accu Bond with 72 grains of IMR 4831. Seated to just under mag length. Shooting out of a Savage with a muzzle brake. Shoots like a 243. Sub MOA out to 300. Haven't tested any further because I don't have a place to hunt any further than that.
 
Wel..... This is the load. 180 NBT over 79 grains of H1000 loaded to 3.330 coal. Set the boss to setting #8. Not terrible. Especially for an auto

Yep, and with the BOSS, it does that sub 1 MOA stuff. I love my A-Bolt 300WinMag with BOSS. I can load up to Max, seat the round out so far I'm down to a 1 in the magazine limit, and then tweak the BOSS dial and zero in so tight Mr. Big would do a double take.

The side blast with mine is awful. At the range I get complaints from ten and 15 stations away and yes, you can start grass fires if you are prone in a field. You must wear hearing protection. I'm gnna buy the 'new' BOSS which doesn't have the muzzle brake.

I will try to get a picture of the muzzle blast at dusk, its impressive.

That's kinda what I did, except I didn't start at max. I maybe have .001" left in my mag box. I have never shot mine without hearing protection bc I have heard how nice they make ur ears bleed. I would like to try the Boss CR bc I am afraid I won't take this rifle hunting much if it is too loud.
