300 RUM going P.D. hunting

I figured I might as well since it shoots a good group and all. I will only shoot about 20 or so rounds with it. I guess the 204 will handle the other 1000 rounds. :grin:

The 208 grain a-max with 83 grains of H4831sc seems to shoot really well @100 yards. Will have to try longer ranges to see how well they do in the RUM.

Savage put a new barrel on it and mailing it off sometime next week, after testng.

I shot a few with a bunch of Retumbo,,they shot very well,,but at 3175 fps the BC wasnt high enough to shoot any flatter or fight the wind any better than the 180 gr at 3450 fps,,until you get past 700 yards or so,,

i would love to shoot out that far without haveing to hold over 5 foot or so. I guess i need some of your load info Mr. Big for the far out loads.

H1000,RL25 Retumbo, and 3-4 other powders will get you over 3100 pretty easy

inside of 750 yards the speed of the 180-190 gr loads will outperform the 208-240 gr loads in both trajectory and wind drift,

inside of 600 yards the speed of the 150-165 gr loads will outperform any of the heavier bullets in both trajectory and wind drift

you really have to be shooting past 7-800 yards for the heavy bullets to come into their own,,unless you are shooting an animal that needs that much bullet
