I found a deal this evening that I couldn't pass up. While traveling on business I stopped in Cabelas in Bowling Green to look around for a minute. I saw a clrx gun rack and nosed around a bit before picking up a beautiful Weatherby SS rifle. I did a double take on the price and model and thought something was wrong. I left and did some research before returning to ask what their inner store transfer policy was since I was in the company vehicle and would be at one of the plants tomorrow. Suffice it to say I will be picking up my .300 Weatherby Accuguard from the Chattanooga/Ringgold store when it is shipped next week. This is the one with the fluted barrel and Bell & Carlson stock. I am not normally an impulse buyer, but this was kind of a deal of a lifetime. I never really wanted a Roy caliber since they are expensive and powder hungry, but I think that I'll make due for this kind of deal. Gonna have to invest in some dies and slow burning powder.

If anyone has any brass that they aren't using I would be more than happy to take it off your hands. That includes the other WBY Mag calibers and .300 H&H Mag

Love my .300 Roy. Only problem I have with mine is the magazine isn't long enough to accommodate my loads with the OAL my rifle likes.

I hear that they are designed with a long leade. From what I have read you have to just seat the bullet to mag length, but it will still have a jump to the lands.

For right now I will just buy a couple of boxes of factory ammo, and then I will take up handloading later when I have accumulated some brass and bought some dies. It's not like this rifle will be among my high volume shooters like my '06s

I'm sure that's what many do but I reload two different OAL's for mine. Color coated so easily visible. Same POI but magazine rounds aren't as accurate. May not be the best way but it works for me. Congrats on the new rifle.

The stubby little 300 grain .458 Barnes semi-spritzers have to run about a foot before they find the rifling in my 460 Weatherby(Mark V). :) Accuracy isn't too spectacular either but it's good enough for deer within 150 yards which is all I'm ever going to use that rifle for.

I just load my 257 Weatherby (Remington 700)to max book length and don't worry about the long lead of the chamber. That's how they were designed and mainly I didn't try loading any longer because the 1st two loads I tried shot consistent .6 moa 3 shot groups. It's a deer rifle rather than a varminter so I was happy as a bug in a rug with that and decided to save the bore for hunting rather than wearing it out looking for something better.

The 300 Weatherby is a heck of a cartridge but it's never appealed to me because of the recoil. Way too much for deer or anything else I am likely to hunt. I know that sounds inconsistent being that I sometimes deer hunt with the biggest Weatherby but I only do that now and then and as a stunt more than anything. A 30 caliber rifle is more of something you'd want to use all the time and the 300 Weatherby just kicks more than I want to endure day in and day out.
