More knock down with the 300bo, longer range with the 223, plenty of bullet choices for either if you reload. I have read 150y with the 300bo, I don't think I want to shoot my AR 223 more than 150y at a deer, now my 6mmarc is another story

If you want an AR, .308 Winchester in an AR-10 is a great choice. It can do it all. The only possible con is weight. How big an ol boy are you?

223. Unless you're trying to be quiet, 223 is cheaper, more available and plenty enough to kill deer

I would go with the 300BO personally out of those two but my range is generally short. That being said, if my desire was to deer hunt with an AR, then my choice would be 350 Legend, 6.5 Grendel, 6ARC, or 6.8 SPC.

I have taken 3 whitetail Does between 30yds and 145 yards with 10.5" 300 blackout SBR. Once, used 190gr sub-x loads and 150gr sp. I have a 20" .223 wylde and have the bullets for it, but I much prefer if I plan to shoot past 150yds I will always choose my trusty .308 Winchester.

This next season, I do plan to make a 125gr SST load for 300 blackout suppressed for my daughter and I together so I don't have to mess with scope during the season. I've seen what 125gr can do on a gallon jug with blackout and I'm very impressed. They fly around 2050fps and have enough energy under 200 yards for me.

If you lean towards .223 Rem, absolutely lean towards a heavier projectile. Like 62, 70, 77gr. And make sure it's NOT FMJ!!!

I always shoot suppressed helps your ears greatly. It does up your odds at a second chance. .300 Blackout need to be 150 yards or in and 200 is a long shot for it.

If you handload....60 gr Partition. or that 64 grainer solid base. 1:8 twist or better the 70 gr Accubond.

Very highly recommended. The 60 will roll them good.

These are very diff bullets. "Mission drives the gear". Shorter range on meat targets, ability to suppress sound, 300 all day. Barnes 110 TTSX is the bullet you seek.

A good and interesting round. Surprised it did not catch on more, likely bc gov did not adopt it like 300 aac (blackout).

I would pickup one of these if I found a deal.

I reload with 105gr Cavity Back Bullets, but you can also buy them factory loaded by Druid Hills for the guy that makes the cavity back bullets. 6.8 forum is a wealth of information as well.

I find it "trickly" to get expansion at sub-sconic speeds. A Can will even earn it's keep at super-sconic speeds. Sub-sconic 220G failed to impress me last year. I got the deer but the bullet didn't expand at all.

Can't argue against the wisdom of the other contributors, as all of my S/E White Tails were taken with a bow or with 180G in .308 at less than 50 yards.

My son shot his first deer with a 125 gr SST out of a 308 at 2700 fps. Terminal performance was completely disappointing. I'd look elsewhere.

Slowing it down 600 fps will make it act like a completely different bullet.

Weight problem is easily resolved, Ruger SFAR .308 in a 6.5 pound package. Or get a lower and two or more uppers. Sight in and push the pins to change calibers

I have a lot of calibers. I like 30 for poking holes in things and once I discovered the 300 blk out and suppressors I question why I bought so much 556. 300 is Great for short barrels. I have no use for a 350 yd .22 other than its light ammo to carry.
