Can you share your method for casting?
1. spend the money on a good mould, the Paul Brooks Mould cost $251.00, this includes handles and shipping
2. "always" keep mould closed by wrapping rubberbands on end of handle when not using and when bringing up to temperature. bringing mould up to temperature this way helps to keep heat evenly distributed
3. bring mould up to temp by placing mould on top edge of pot
4. heat mould on top of pot for 5 minutes then pour a boolit
5. if mould in not hot enough after 1st boolit, heat on top of pot another 5 minutes
6. when you pour first few boolits leave ladle and mould married for a slow count of 8 seconds, lead will probably harden so you will have to break mould and ladle apart
7. keep doing #6 until you see that mould has reached correct temp.
8. when mould has reached correct temp, leave ladle married to mould for about 3 seconds
9. after ladle is removed from mould, rest mould on top edge of pot and let the lead harded, I leave mine for 15 seconds
10. cut sprue, drop boolit and repeat
11. keep mould over pot at all times except when removing cast boolit
I am casting heavy boolits, 421 +/- grains each, I am using certified 30:1 lead/tin that I bought from RotoMetals in California
I am casting at 780 degrees
it takes me about 55 seconds to cast each boolit
you time sequence is real inportant, the closer that you can keep each step of casting on the same time frame the more exact your boolits will be
if I stop for a few minutes then resume casting I will have a 0.5 or so grain difference in weight, usually lighter
