I have been searching for a Remington 788 in 30-30 for a long time but have not even been able to lay hands on one. Does anyone one on here have one or know someone who does.

Those 788's are a sweet little gem if you can find one. I grew up shooting a 788 in 30-30 that my cousin owned and still kills deer with to this day.

I have 2 788's, one a carbine & one w/ a regular length barrel, both in .243. The are fabulous guns.

However, I shot a buck this year with a old bolt 30-30 I bought at a pawn shop for $125. I think it's a Savage. Not even tapped for a scope. Not the gun a 788 is but decent.

I don't know if you reload or not, but a 30-06 can be loaded down to 30-30 velocities, with flat-nose points, or even spitzers if you want just a tad better B.C. There is published data for this, Look at the published data for the Sierra 180gr @ 2400-fps-ish.
