30-06 coal???

I am new to reloading bought me a hornady lock and load over all length gauge. Was checking my remington 700 30-06 for coal. And I'm getting 3.480 touching the lands if I back this off 10 thousands that still seems really long to me. This was with a nosler ballistic tip 165 grain. Do you guys think if I start out at nosler book low charge I would have any problems? I'm just concerned how long it is so use to factory ammo I guess. I also will load one to see if it will slide in the mag box in the floor plate. If not I will adjust it. Just asking questions since I'm new don't want any surprise pressure. Thanks

No, you will not see any pressure issues. I would make sure the length would fit the magazine first if you plan on hunting a lot with it.

Some 700's do. Weatherby's have so much freebore you can never get to the lands with them, so they can really look wild for someone that wants to keep stretching them out past magazine length capacity.

A good rule of rule of thumb is to seat the bullet with at least 1 caliber's depth (in this case .308) in the case neck. I do run some of mine a bit longer than this, though

My Rem 700 in 243 throat is very long. It has been my experience that keeping your jump to a minimum improves accuracy. It is very rifle/bullet/primer/powder dependent so be sure your record keeping is complete.

And yep, if it is a blind magazine Rem you will have no problems with OAL. If you have a magazine, you MAY have some issues in that you can only place one round in the magazine. This should not be a problem. Slip one into the chamber and one in the magazine, how many bullets you need to kill a deer?
