And don't forget you might not get as good of a pattern out of a 3.5" as a 3" if shooting 2.75 shells.
 
Bird shot wouid be ok, but if you are talking about a rifled slug barrel, I would not shoot a 2.75" slug in a 3.5" chamber. That's too much free bore before it engages rifling.
 
I like to have 3.5" capability but man they are unpleasant to shoot.

No issue w shooting 2.75 or 3 in a 3.5 chamber at all!!
