Heard some shots this morning, but did not see but a few does and a spike. Hope it picks up around me.

Switch flipped in our area 11/28 with a mature buck working a scrape. Then 11/29 mature buck sticking with a doe. Younger bucks also chasing. All in the daylight. Several reports last week of bucks cruising and camera videos of sparring.With muzzloader season being dead for us....and with the last week of October and first week of November having more daytime activity....it seems to be shifted back 10 to 14 days.
Edit to add....looking back at notes...my buddy that hunts our place did see a mature buck on both 26th and 27th...one got by him and the other was to far...but both were mature and on their feet cruising...so by all reports there was a peak last week of October into November....with second peak last week of November into December. (And that comment is from our observations in our area of northern middle).

Very, VERY interesting.
Wife went this morning, she heard two shots at daylight from property behind us. The man who owns it claims they only kill "wallhangers" and only killed 2 deer off the property in the short time they have owned it. Doubt he'd be honest about what they shot. She saw pretty good chasing up in the edge, and passed on a decent 8 and saw two other bucks.

HA I just throw up my hands with this year. We are still showing nothing. I'm still going to bank on new bucks that showed up last year mid December for our traditional timing of the 2nd rut. Hope they show up again. They always do - timing is the problematic theme this year. If we went 30 days from when the magic happened this year, it'd be the last 2 weeks of November. That time has passed. I'll be targeting travel routes to food the last few times I'll get to go

I shot my second buck Monday morning. He was alone cruising across a huge open field in the wide open. He jumped the fence into the woods with me and made the mistake of stopping 5yds in front of me. I wasn't really wanting to kill anything at all, just monitoring, but he made it too easy. Any time I can kill a mature buck and back the tailgate right to him, im not passing.
Hunted yesterday afternoon and this morning and yet to see a deer. Back at it now. Another guy saw 6 deer and all bucks but no shooters. Club across from us killed 2 good ones this morning.

Get after them fellas. I got laid up and spent 4 days in hospital with kidney stones. Don't feel much like going with this hose up my hose. Hopefully I can in a week or so.

It's wide open in my areas too
Had two grunting, tearing up small saplings, and running a doe all over the place this morning.
I boiled out skulls for my niece and dad this morning and didn't go. Outside shot that I'll go tomorrow afternoon after church

No trophies to show off this season. Just a couple old deer some folks would call culls. But I called one summer and the other sausage. First 25lbs packed into casings ready for the smoker!
Yessir! We make a bunch of summer sausage each season and give them out with Christmas cards, share with family & friends, and my wife takes several up to various villages in Alaska to share with her tribal elders and kinfolk. Save a handful for ourselves to snack on throughout the year.
Seen a little in Wilson Co last weekend, nothing this weekend so far. Post county where your at.

This makes me feel a little better. Never saw the first chase on my Hatchie lease. Captured one or two bucks with does on trail cam but that was about it. May make one more trip out there in a week or two if things slow back down around my house.

Scrapes opened back up on my lease in White cty the 2nd/ 3rd. I went today but didn't even see a squirrel. Cameras showed daytime movement activity last 3 days.

Traditionally when we have acorns, the deer are on our place. If no acorns, they're not there. But the years we have an over-abundance like this year, we don't even get our fall range shifters. We do but it's like 30% of normal. I just want to get back to the normal average of a 5-8 out of 10 on acorns. That's when our place thrives.
The rut correlates. They're either there or they're not. If you don't have a huntable population of mature deer, you ain't killing them. A typical year we would have 5-8 shooters, but lately it's been 2-3 a year. That's some tough hunting.
