I got a mint Model 70 Classic Featherweight I picked up the last year they were made in New Haven and never shot hardly any,,I thought I would let Ethan use it this season,,
whats the best powder to get fast speed and good accuracy,,

I thought about having it rebarreled in 6.5 Gap but the 270 WSM should do fine for deer hunting,
 
I don't own a 270 WSM so no firsthand experience.

I have a 300 WSM I am beating on trying to find the right load....seems a bit picky.....T/C Venture

I do like using IMR7828 which Nosler says in the 130 gr bullet will get you 3300+ FPS, cannot speak for accuracy. A 130 at that speed ought to roll them over

Let us know how it shoots,that's about the only caliber i would like to try.seems to have some great numbers.can t see a 6.5 Being much better in factory loads but hand rolled is another story
 
I've shot and killed A LOT of deer over the past 15 years with my .270 WSM and 140 grain ABs. I have not hand loaded for it yet, because I always used Georgia Arms ammunition for impeccable accuracy out to 200 yards (same hole at 100 yards, literally). Once Georgia Arms quit making my ammunition few years back, I called their office and spoke with the guy who is in charge of their reloading department. He was nice enough to look at his loading notes and tell me that his powder is a "proprietary blend" that I could NOT buy commercially, but that H4831SC was the closest thing to it for me to buy, as far as burn rate goes. I thought that was very nice of him. Long story short, when I do reload for it, I want to duplicate his exact load if anyway possible. If he would load me 200-300 shells tomorrow, I would buy every last one of them, that is how good they shoot in my A-Bolt Stalker. Good lock Eric, as I know you will maximize the speed and accuracy out of whatever load you choose. Please share your experience with us as some of us could learn from it too.
 
I loaded for a few 270 WSM's and have found the following:

Magpro will give top speed but accuracy is hit or miss
IMR7828SSC is a great powder for 130-150gr bullet ranges
RL22 will provide great speed and accuracy but is fairly temp sensitive
Retumbo performs well with 150gr bullets

While I never tried RL26 in the 270 WSM, I would expect it to be a great match with near top speed and exceptional accuracy.
 
I once had a fellow hire my services to develope a load for a Browning A-Bolt in 270 WSM, after trying many powders with the 140 Nosler Accubond the best was H4831SC and suprisingly standard primers made a big difference. No magnums needed.
 
I got bullets and powder but need rings to mount the 3.5 10 Leupold.
