Put the .280 in there! I cant tell the difference and i don't think deer can either. Im not being smart its my opinion and i know it dont help. I carry the .270 in the fields more and the 30.06 in the brush more. But i want a .280 lol

I know. This topic always brings out some interesting answers, hence the pop-corn. The 30-06 vs 7 mag thread went on for years.

Ballistically, the 30-06 wins. It also wins in the versatility category. And in the longevity section. But at the end of the day, I'm not changing my name to Rubberduck30-06

I have both and find myself hunting with the .270 the most. I just like the .270 more. The -06 is just as effective, but just not as fun to shoot.

Both do the same, one is lighter to shoot, and one isnt in every dang country song. Ill keep my .270 but I will also take anyones 30-06 that they are giving away.

Pretty much the same thing EXCEPT for bigger game such as bear, elk, or moose I would choose the 30/06 because of the heavier bullets that are available.

There ain't a hair's breadth difference between the 270, 280, and 30-06 when it comes to deer hunting in most of Tennessee. In wide open spaces the 270 and 280 will have a slightly longer point blank range. On heavier critters the '06 holds the edge. I have all three and enjoy all of them.

Have both and both are great calibers and can't go wrong with either. I'm more confident in my Encore .270 just because i've had it longer and that's my "go to " rifle. I still love my 30-06 though.
