Shot him with a savage .270 130 grain winchester power points. This is the entrance hole, there wasn't an exit. Seems to me like the bullet exploded on impact?

Years ago I shot a buck at about 50 yards with a .50 cal mz Barnes expander. Perfect broadside shot with nothing in the way. Entrance hole was the size of small plate and the exit was about the size of a dime. Craziest thing I ever saw on a shot, exactly opposite of what you would think. My BIL tried to argue that I shot him on the opposite side, I told him I think I know what side I shot him on, lol!

Holy moly!!! That is some mass carnage. I would say bullet failure of some sort.

Hmm.........strange damage for an entrance hole......perhaps it tumbled? or deflected on a limb then hit. never seen any thing quiet like that for an entrance...............

Shot one several years ago with 150gr Swift Scorrioco ( spelling) by Remington factory loads from an 3006. Your pic is close to what I saw back then. I didn't find that one till after the song dogs had got on him the next day.(Actually lost another deer with the same I believe ,not a 100% sure I hit it ) an killed a button with similar results that one was DRT.
Never have nor will try them again, just me.
I agree even the Power Points should not do that. I have no ideal other than it Blew UP on empact. same for my above.

I shot this doe last year with 150 gn federal soft point from my 270. This is also the entrance hole. She was 35 yds just slightly off from broadside. No limbs in the way. I was so confused when I got to her because I kept telling myself there is no way that's the entrance but I knew that was the side I shot. Also no exit.

even a cup n core power point shouldnt do that

id guess it hit brush and key holed the deer

I can't figure out what happened. There wasn't any brush or limbs in the way. I was hunting over a field.

if that is the case bullet failure

ie a bad bullet something in the manufacturing process went wrong
