270 ammo

just won a 270 a-bolt yesterday and looking for advice on what shoots well for others. My starting points will probably be the core lokt 150 grain and the hornady sst 130 grain that is the two loads I have shot out of my a-bolt 7mm-08 in 139 and 140 grains with great results. Any advice would be appreciated

I got a friend he has a rem 700 in 270 he try all the high dollar brands never got what he was looking for until he try the cheap rem 130gr core lokt they shot like custom hand loads. Every gun is not the same. Most brand will shoot DOA but not MOA if you get 1-2" you are good to go for deer.

I have had the best results with 130 gr. Sierra Gamekings. They are cheap, accurate, and drop deer in their tracks.

I will be building a bunch of ladders for a 270 and I am focusing all effort on the 130 grain Accubond.

If you do not hand load start wiit the 130 grain core lokts.


Your new rifle should be accurate as can be.

My rifle loves the Federal Classic 150 grain round nose soft points. They are also very inexpensive. They have performed very well for me on dozens of deer, a few bears, several coyotes, and a bobcat!

I reload the 130 gr. SST Ballistic tips for my brothers 270 and it's right on the money every time.

My Remington 700 in 270 win shoots factory Remington and Winchester 130 gr soft points under an inch. Hornady 130 SST and Sierra prohunter 130 gr with H4831sc powder group under 3/4 inch. All have performed well on deer. Same loads in 3 Savage rifles all show about 1/2" larger groups.
A former Weatherby compact light weight rifle in 270 win only gave very good accuracy when loaded near max pressures. It preferred 140 gr Hornady interlock soft points for grouping under 1". It had a short light weight bbl with a very loud bark and it bit the eyebrow of many that shot it.
If your rifle does not group under 2" at 100 yards it is not an accurate 270. Probably still good enough for deer out to 200 yards but keep quiet about accuracy at the camp fire.

My Remington 700 in 270 Win likes all 130 gr loads. Winchester and Remington factory ammo is grouping under 1 " at 100 yards. I have hand loaded various powders and 130 gr bullets. The groups shrink to 1/2 " to 3/4 ". The gun will do better but my skill level will not. My favorite is H4831sc and 130gr Hornady SST. The Sierra 130 gr Prohunter gives slightly better accuracy but does not open up quickly. Tennessee deer are not that tough so I prefer fast opening bullet for max shock affect. A good rifle in 270 win will give great results in accuracy and killing effectiveness.
