I recently picked up a pre 64 Model 70 .264 Win Mag with a 26" barrel from the original owner. This rifle is in excellent shape and has the original 20 cases that it's fired. I was also given boxes of primed cases and bullets so I'm now leaning toward getting into some reloading to really see it's full potential.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with this caliber? What round would you recommend? I plan to use it for hunting some power lines and fields with 3-500 yard shots available. I've topped it off with a Nikon 4x16x42/30 MM.

Thanks,

Daddy has a Rem 700 Sendero and it doesnt shoot the 140s well at all but it bugholes the 120 NBT and RL19 and the 130 VLD and H1000 with really high speeds,,I think it is 9 twisted and any 6.5mm needs an 8 twist to get max performance,,

I think those pre 64 Win 264 Mags were actually stainless bbls with a blue finish to match the receiver,if it is in good to very good condition it could demand a premium price,,

I've always wanted a 264 but have never gotten around to it. The Remington 700 Sendero's Mr. Big mentioned have always been the rifle that has tempted me in 264. It has a lot of long range potential with all the good .264 caliber bullets and large case capacity.

I`d try Nosler and see if they load the 130 Accubond. I`ve had 2 264 WM and loved them. RL25 with 130`s and Retumbo with 140`s. The Remmys are short throated so lighter bullets fit best. My reamer is set up for 130 Accubonds or 140 Sierra Game Kings.

I have a basically a new set of 264 Win Mag dies And some brass to I think I could make you a deal on. Plenty of good 6.5 bullets out there now.

Thanks for the feedback. I've already had a few offers at the local gun shop when picking out a scope but I plan on keeping and hunting with this one.
