Mausermeister said:I thought about getting a .260. It's a great round if you just have to use a short action and want to shoot light bullets. If you want to take advantage of the high BC of the heavy 6.5 bullets for long range, you need a long action gun. If I'm gonna have a long action, I'll just stick with the 6.5x55 since it gives me a few grains more case capacity.
The biggest drawback to the .260 is if you want to stretch it out with heavy pills, you have to seat them very deep to function in a short action gun. This can quickly cause pressure issues way before you reach the velocity you need.

From 85 gr varmint bullets to 160 gr round nose bullets, the 6.5 is capable of everything from groundhogs to moose, and it does so with low recoil and very good sectional density and ballistic coefficient numbers. IMO the 260 might be one of the best all around chamberings out there.
