Where is the best place to order the 250 grian xtp's from? I checked at some sporting goods stores and none of them had any in stock yet. Has anyone tried the SST's and what is your experience with them. I will be shooting these from a savage ML-II.

Scrap the xtp's except for practice.

The xtp is designed for an IMPACT velocity around 1,500 +/- fps.

If you shoot a book load and shoot at something less than 100 yards away, the xtp will fail - BTDT. 6" impact hole and no exit.

The 240 xtp mag or the 300 gr version are better options if you LOVE the xtp - I do not (at Savage speeds). At less than 2,000 fps muzzle, I think the xtp a fine mz bullet.

I think the SST is the better choice. I have pushed it to 2,600+ out of a .50 and over 3,000 fps in a .40 - no complaints yet on game.

Stay away from the 300 gr bullets if you don't like heavy recoil, I have tried the 300 gr XTPs with N110. Wont be no more of that. I shoot IMR 4759 with 250 gr XTPs but would like to find a better bullet for close shots.

I really could not agree more. I hate 300gr bullets.

Actually, I hate 250's too.

195-200's are where it's at :)

'course you'll need a new barrel.

If you want better pass-thru's, stick to the 300's, just get a limbsaver recoil pad to manage the recoil, if that bothers you. I can't hardly tell the difference.

X2
the 300 exp's are extremely accurate out of my savage and flat out lay the smack down.
