What can yall tell me about this cartridge? I just traded into a brand new browning xbolt. Not particularly fond of the caliber but I figured I might could trade it for a nice 223. Accuracy? Noise? Ballistics?

I love mine. I've had two and both were killers. Very flat shooting with enough knockdown power for whitetail deer.

It'll shoot a 100gr bullet to about 3400. Nuff said.

Do yourself a favor, don't shoot it. Just trade it and move on. Cause if you do shoot it, you will understand why the 25-06 has stood the test of time, no matter what it challenged by, no matter what new cartridge comes out, they come and go, and the 25-06 still stands. There is a reason why every rifle company out there offers a 25-06, cause it's just that dang good.
Accuracy? Ever heard the old saying accuracy kills? The 25-06 has been accurately killing goat in mtns, antelope in the prairie, and whitetail throughout the US for decades. Not only this, but some hunters use them to hunt Elk, cause they are so accurate and punch packing, it is effective.
Noise? The 25-06 has a very distinctive sound. It's more of a cracking boom.
Ballistics? Well, that depends on several differ things. Barrel length being the major factor. Shorter barrels tend to be less effective ballistically. 24 inch plus will produce better results past 300 yards.
If you decide you wanna shoot it and see what you have, I love the hornady 117 grain SST superformance. But, I've seen the 110 grain accubond produce awesome results ballistically.

I feel like the 25-06 is one of the most underrated deer catridges out there. Ballistics are fantastic and are even better if you handload. Negligible recoil difference over the 243 but the ballistics are better, even with a slightly heavier bullet. I shoot TTSX's and Etip's out of mine only because I do not handload and cannot find the accubonds loaded anywhere. It seems that Nosler has stopped offering it as a factory loaded round.

I love mine. very accurate, no recoil. Loading up either nosler BT, acuubonds or partition. Shoot even the Rem cor lokts shoot great out of it.

My buddies at deer camp are believers in the caliber after watching me shoot over the last couple years. I love mine so much I have 3 different ones. An old original tang safety a new Haweye and just bought a American to get set of for my daughter when she is ready in a year or so.

2 or 3 powders stand head and shoulders above the rest, IMR4350, RL22 and IMR4831.

The 25-06 is a well balanced deer cartridge that is truly big enough to do the job without smacking your shoulder any more than the minimum amount necessary. I used an older Remington 700 ADL as my main deer rifle for a lot of years. Only reason I stopped was to experiment a while with it's larger cousin, the 257 Weatherby. The 25's are my idea of perfect open country deer cartridges.

My favorite bullets for the 25-06 are either the 115 or 120 grain Nosler Partition. Have never understood why they make 2 bullets so close to being identical though. They Partition doesn't have as high a BC as more modern bullets but it sure is effective after impact.

I have a 25-06 in ruger m77. I have thought about shortening the stock for my daughter. She is a small 9 yr old. I have never shot a .243 so I don't know how the recoil would compare. I have only shot a few rounds out of it just to see how it shoots, had the gun for years now. I may start hunting with it, if it wouldn't be a suitable round for my daughter.

I shoot a rem 700 Classic in 25-06. I love this rifle. Sold it like a dummy about 15 years ago and luckily, I had the opportunity to buy it back 4-5 years ago. Mine loves the factory federals with the 117gr Sierra game king. Even for me, a self proclaimed shotgun snob who's never viewed a rifle as nothing more than a necessary tool, that rifle can still make me look like I somewhat know what I'm doing. Haha
