Fished another pond (undisclosed) this evening. Caught a few bluegills, plenty of turtles, a few catfish.

Before it got dark, a grassie ate my piece of bread but was facing toward me so the hook set failed.

Later, after it got dark, I hooked into a good one on the light tackle. Broke my personal best exactly a week after my previous record. 23 pounds, 39 inches & 21 inch girth.

Then later on, after some more turtles and catfish, hooked another one, went a little less. 34 inches & 19 inch girth, did not weigh it but did get a pic of me holding it.

Nasty pond mud.... well worth it though. Here are a couple pics. Will probably put a little video on youtube later.

I have small feet so it might make the fish look bigger. But he was big...

First grass carp at night for me, but same old bait and tackle... White bread, #6 hook, 6 pound stren, ugly stik...

I think it's soon time to re-spool my reel after catching so many oversized fish with that line. It twists real bad every time I get a big one because so much drag runs out! Only thing I don't like about spinning reels. Thanks again Bowriter for sending the reels, the Shimano has treated me very well lately.

How do you even hook a grass carp if you are bass fishing? Anyway when I'm bass fishing, a drum is always a welcome surprise, cause they hit real hard and fight unlike a bass and are worthwhile to me. They all go back in the water anyway....

They are triploid carp (sterile) and cost $10 per fish to stock when they are young, live for 7-9 years and control the weeds in ponds like this. I don't think it would be a good idea killing the fish that a HOA spent money to stock to keep their pond looking nice.

Never tried but I hear they are good eating, except for the bones. If I caught one wild in a river or something I might try it one day, but all the ones I catch are stocked in ponds for weed control so I won't bother eating them.

I'd use my homemade dough bait but I like to float bread on the surface so I have to pinch some on the hook and leave some of it expanded so it floats.
