what bullets you guys use in your 223 for coyote and deer?

55gr. NBT, 69gr. SMK and I just started reloading the 70gr. Berger VLD's. Gotta do a little more load development with the Bergers though. But I don't hunt deer with it though.

About to start trying the Barnes 53gr. TSX. It's supposed to be the real deal if you have to use .223 on deer. I don't really want to, but I have a little one that is very recoil sensitive.

Read the reviews on that bullet on Midway.com, there are guys shooting Mule Deer with them. I really wouldn't reccommend that either, but they say the barnes bullet turns a marginal deer caliber into a Bang-Flop round.

I don't use a 223 but, a nosler partition might be better suited for larger game. I would stay away from "varmint" bullets and use something bonded or heavily constructed.

I use nosler 55 grain BT, one hole groups and have dropped two deer with it. Its not what I usually deer hunt with but it gets the job done. Its all about shot placement.

I'd say a 53 grain TSX will not bounce off of a deer. I know of a bunch of guys who use it almost exclusively on deer and the results are pretty phenomenal.

true,i am thinking it would be something different to hunt with,i know there is better available,just looking to carry something other than the 7mm-08 and the long range hunter.

My 6 yr old son started hunting this year with a Savage 223. He shoots a 60 grain Nosler Partition and has shot 3 times and killed 3 deer, all went down within 75 yards. There are better calibers for deer hunting but with proper shot placement and proper shot angles they will definately get the job done. It's a great caliber for recoil sensitive or smaller shooters but probably not the caliber you would pick to shoot one in the arse at 200 yards. Take broadside or quartering away shots at reasonable distances and you will be draggin'.

Here are 2 of the deer he shot this year on the same evening and both were broadside shots at about 20 yards. Both went down within 50 yards.

I would recommend Nosler Partitons or Barnes TSX.
